FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS:
WHAT IS RED BULL CREATION?
Red Bull Creation is a 72-hour creative competition that annually assembles the best and brightest makers, hackers, and inventors to innovate around a “secret topic”. In the past topics have dealt with a variety of subjects: Creating new vehicles, inventing musical instruments, building public games.
The topic could be just about anything. You won’t know until the competition begins.
WHO CAN PARTICIPATE?
YOU! For the very first time Red Bull Creation will be open to local and national participants. This year’s event will feature two competition categories. An “invited” field, and an “open” field.
how does the competition work?
Pretty simple. At the beginning of competition we announce a broad build topic, and you have 72 hours to create something new based on that topic. There are not many rules beyond that, however it has to be a tangible object, and capable of public display.
WHERE DO I BUILD?
The majority of the building will take place at your own shop or garage. On the final day of the event, all participants will gather for a show and tell street party at Detroit’s Recycle Here!
ARE THERE PRIZES?
You know it. There will be a first, second, and third place cash prize in the Open Class. However, in the end, this event is really about getting together with a group of good friends and creating something new and awesome.
HOW OLD DO I HAVE TO BE?
The “open” class is open to anyone over 18 years old.
WHAT ARE WE BUILDING?
Ha, nice try. Your Jedi mind tricks don’t work on us. It’s a secret. However we can tell you that it will be a broad topic, and open to interpretation. It doesn’t matter if you’re an artist, engineer, car enthusiast, robot dude, or whatever…anyone will be able to build around the topic.
HOW MANY PEOPLE CAN I HAVE ON MY TEAM?
Teams competing in the “open” class can have as many team members as you’d like.
WHAT'S THE COMPETITION SCHEDULE?
I’D LIKE TO ATTEND THE FINAL SHOW AND TELL AT RECYCLE HERE. DO I NEED A TICKET?
All Red Bull Creation events are free and open to the public. You don’t need a ticket, but all functions are first come, first serve.
WHAT ELSE IS GOING ON?
Lots of stuff. From Sept 23-26th Detroit’s Recycle Here! Will be open to guests and feature a series of workshops, lectures, and random happenings. Check back for a full schedule soon.
